States Coffee

States Coffee is a roastery café in Martinez with red brick, black steel, high ceilings and skylights. There are two rooms with upholstered chairs, communal tables and a big conference table that doubles as a standing desk. People settle in for hours.

They roast on-site, and you can watch. The espresso has smooth, chocolatey notes, and the drip's good. Beans rotate. Half-pound bags start at $13, and buying a full pound gets you a free drink. Pastries and bread come from local bakeries. The vegan donuts are popular, and there's banana bread and avocado toast. They offer a subscription too.
