Sunday Service Motor Company

Sunday Service is a coffee roastery and a brewery in a former service garage on 4th Street in Albuquerque. Eight house beers on draught share the bar with the espresso machine. The owner is often behind the bar pulling shots. Through an interior window you can see the art studio next door. That's a lot to package into one room, and somehow it works.

The indoor patio has a roll-up garage door that opens to the outside when the weather's right. The bar is a six-place composite, hard barstools, plus tall and low tables, padded benches, and a couple of relaxed couches. Music plays at conversation level. Late hours mean karaoke and trivia nights. Dogs come along on the patio, which is the rule rather than the exception.

Drink-wise, the Barney Rubble is the signature pour. Cold brew, double espressos, and dry cappuccinos cover the morning. By night, the house coffee porter and the red ale do the work. The coffee porter is the obvious order if you want to taste the through-line between the two sides of the operation. Breakfast burritos and blueberry scones round out the food.

The combination is the appeal. A meet-for-coffee that turns into a beer, or the reverse, without changing venues. Cyclists and motorcyclists passing through find it quickly. Laptop workers find outlets and wifi. The art studio next door is visible through the interior window, which gives the room one more layer than a coffee-shop-and-bar otherwise would have.

Karaoke nights pull in a different crowd than the morning espresso regulars, which is part of the appeal. The room turns over its energy entirely between shifts, and the staff handles the transition without losing the easy pace. Parking gets tight during busy stretches. That's the only complaint that lands consistently, and it's a small price to pay for a room that does both modes well. Otherwise, it's the rare spot that genuinely earns the all-day, all-mode label.
