Superjoy Coffee

Superjoy is set up to make you a coffee and send you back out the door. The downtown Portland bar roasts in-house, runs a tight specialty menu, and keeps things deliberately quiet, which is a real choice in a city where most cafes have leaned the other way. A few small tables inside and out. Ambient music low enough to disappear. Sometimes an espresso machine in pieces on the counter while a barista works on it. This is a counter, not a hangout, and the people running it have decided that on your behalf. The lattes lean specialty with house syrups, and the barista-led program is what holds the place together. The orange mocha is the most-named drink. The Persian latte runs a close second. A cortado here is small, well-pulled, and worth ordering if you want to see what the roaster can do without milk getting in the way. An Earl Grey latte with soy gets ordered enough to bother mentioning, and the staff will pull a pour-over with attention if you ask for one. There is no big signage, no chalkboard menu announcing every option, no laptop crowd that has colonized the back tables. Show up wanting a fast group hang and you will misread the room. Show up wanting a careful drink to take with you on the walk back to your meeting and the place delivers what the rest of downtown does not bother with. Seating is limited and the vibe is short and quiet. Bring that energy or pick somewhere else. Coffee-focused visitors will find a small bar doing the work seriously, with a barista who knows the menu cold and a counter willing to talk through the order if you have a question. Skip it if you came for a long sit. The room is not built for it and was never trying to be.
