The cold brew at The Cracked Bean Roastery is the kind of cold brew that gets called the absolute best a person has ever had. One regular said it in those terms. The shop is on James Street in the Eastwood neighborhood of Syracuse, a cozy modern room with tables, couches, chairs, and the small thing that separates a working cafe from a hangout: outlets at the tables and the counter. Students and remote workers fill the room on a normal afternoon and stay for hours.
The roastery side runs in-house. The Brazil Mogiana is the bag to take home if you are setting up for pour-over. At the counter the cold brew is the headliner, followed by a vanilla latte paired with a chocolate croissant, a lavender latte that holds its own, and a matcha that customers ask after a specific barista (Anna) to make. The pastry case rewards visiting: blueberry-and-cream danish and the chocolate croissant get the steady mentions, and egg bites cover the small-meal slot. They also stock fresh duck eggs and meat sticks for sale, which is the kind of detail that signals owners who do not let the retail side default to expected items. The indoor and outdoor seating both run generous for the room.
A few honest catches. One customer was openly annoyed that the same drink was priced differently across visits, and that is the kind of inconsistency that erodes trust if it persists. Weekend parking can be precarious; plan a walk from down the block during busy hours. The outdoor space is dog-friendly, which the regulars use. None of those caveats undo the basic case for the place. Cold brew, room, hours, outlets, the dog at the next table, a Brazil Mogiana bag to take home. That is the cafe, and in Eastwood it is one of the better arguments for choosing a small roaster over the chain on the next corner.
