The Dalai Java

The Dalai Java calls itself a mindful coffee shop. It's in a historic building on Main Street in Canandaigua, with original hardwood floors, big windows, mellow music and nice lighting. There are window seats, couches, and work tables with outlets, plus fast wifi.

They roast in small batches on-site. The medium roasts are smooth and the espresso drinks are well made. Beans run about $30 a pound and come in airtight valve bags, and the staff can tell you exactly when each batch was roasted.

The kitchen's open until 2 PM daily, with breakfast sandwiches, burritos, turkey wraps, local baked goods and daily specials.
