The Doghouse Coffee in Lapeer is women- and veteran-owned, and the entire shop is built around dogs. Pup cups on the menu. Dog treats on the counter. Regular pup meetups on the calendar. The mission is tied to supporting animal shelters, and that's not a marketing detail. It's the reason the place exists, and the staff talk about it that way.
The interior is warm and trendy, with a real variety of seating. Couches for a long sit. High-tops for a quick stop. Desks for laptop work. Big windows for the natural light. Toddler toys for the parents who need them, which is the kind of detail that tells you the owners have thought hard about who walks through the door. The room handles both an upbeat morning rush and a quiet afternoon work session.
The coffee is roasted in-house. The peanut butter blonde is the regular order, the one that gets named over and over. Monthly specialty drinks rotate and are usually worth the trial run. Pup cups for the dog. Baked goods to pair with the cup.
The one honest complaint from a customer was that they wished for more than one short table for laptop meetings. That's a real gap if you're trying to host a small video call with a colleague in person. For solo laptop work or a long sit on a couch, the room handles it fine.
Parking is in the back, plenty of it. There's a second location in Metamora for anyone who's closer to that side. The one thing this place doesn't offer is outdoor seating, which is a small mark against it on a beautiful Michigan afternoon when you'd want a patio.
The fit is dog owners, remote workers, parents, and anyone who wants a long sit in a comfortable room run by people who clearly mean what they're doing.
