About

Walking distance to the Belmar beach, but Turnstile is not a beach-coffee operation. The owner is described as nationally trained and globally educated, and the prices stay reasonable in a market that could double them. Pastries come from Balthazar. The named house roast (Turnstile Nightfall) is the darker option in a lineup that otherwise leans light and medium.

The drinks list is short and intentional. Cold brew with Irish cream cold foam is the seasonal pull. Latte with oat milk for the standard. An espresso martini after hours. Matcha drinks for the matcha customer. The almond croissant is the pastry to know, with a buttery flake that the Balthazar sourcing accounts for.

The room runs warm. People describe a movie-fairy-tale interior and a small Italian cafe feel. Laptops and small meetings fit the space well. Toddlers fit too, with the barista documented playing peekaboo while parents order. That's the kind of small thing that turns a one-time visitor into a regular.

Two real catches before you walk in. The nitro cold brew has come out tasting like water from a pot rinse on a bad day. A latte. Too light to be more than flavored milk. Both are individual incidents in a generally positive customer record. The consistency-of-execution question is real for a small roastery. The bathrooms do not have changing tables, which a parent flagged.

Dark-roast-only drinkers will find fewer options. The post-beach morning crowd, friends meeting over coffee, parents with toddlers, and laptop workers make up the regular base. Once you have walked from the beach, the cafe is right there waiting.
