Ungrounded Coffee Roasters

Ungrounded is a walk-up window in what one customer described as the middle of nowhere on VT-30 in South Londonderry. Owner Christopher (Chris to regulars) runs it, picks the music, and serves through the window onto a dog-friendly patio. In winter, the seating is outdoor-only, because there isn't any meaningful indoor seating beyond a small bar.

The maple latte is the reason to stop. That's the signature, and it's worth ordering as half-maple if you don't want the sweetness to take over the cup. The maple cappuccino is the same idea in a smaller format. Iced maple latte when it's hot out. The menu isn't extensive and doesn't need to be. They know what they're good at, and they don't pretend to be a full-service cafe operating out of a window. The maple thing isn't an afterthought either; this is southern Vermont, and a maple latte at a roadside window on VT-30 is the kind of regional commitment that feels right rather than gimmicky.

The music skews EDM, which one regular flagged and which is worth knowing if you're expecting acoustic guitar with your coffee. Chris's music selection is part of the experience, like it or not. The patio works in summer; in February you're standing outside in southern Vermont with a paper cup, and that's the deal. Dogs are welcome on the patio, which makes Ungrounded a stop for anyone road-tripping through with a dog who needs a stretch.

It suits travelers passing through southern Vermont and locals who don't mind taking coffee on the road. It does not suit laptop workers, anyone wanting indoor winter seating, or anyone who needs a quiet aural environment. The whole appeal is the walk-up format, the maple latte, and the fact that Chris is the one handing it to you. If those three things sound right, you'll like Ungrounded. If they don't, keep driving down VT-30 and find somewhere with chairs.
