About

Uptown Espresso's Magnolia location sits on W. McGraw Street in a neighborhood pocket of Seattle, serving Fonte coffee and the chain's signature Velvet Foam lattes. It's the Magnolia outpost of a small Seattle chain, with a sister cafe in West Seattle. Locals treat it as a neighborhood third place, which is the right read on the room and the customer base.

The space is cozy and warm: wood furniture, west-facing windows that pull in afternoon light in a way most Seattle cafes can't manage, music kept at a conversational volume so you can talk over it. A mix of cozy chairs and long classic tables means you can land here for a quick meeting or settle in for a longer one without feeling like you're in the wrong seat. The room gets lively at peak times when people are meeting friends and the room fills with conversation. A covered outdoor patio handles overflow and nicer weather.

What to order. The macchiato. The Velvet Foam latte, which is the chain signature and the thing to try if you've never had one of them. Fonte drip if you want the coffee straight without anything on top. Matcha latte for the non-coffee option. On the food side: the maple-topped coffee cake is the standout and the thing customers come back for, the breakfast burrito works well in the morning, and the heated PB&J on the panini press is the move if you want something simple, warm, and a little nostalgic.

A couple of honest caveats. Wifi quality is hit-or-miss, which matters if you were planning to take a video call from one of the long tables. Prices run high once you factor in fees, eight to ten dollars for a latte by some accounts, which is a real number to know before you order and a number that's been climbing. The space is dog-friendly with treats, so the pup is welcome and gets attention.

Who this is for. Magnolia neighborhood regulars who walk in three times a week and get a nod from the barista. Friends meeting up for an hour over coffee and a coffee cake. Remote workers who don't mind a lively room and don't need bulletproof wifi for their work. Uptown isn't trying to be a destination cafe pulling people from across town. It's trying to be the place around the corner that you keep coming back to, and for the people who live in the neighborhood, it succeeds at exactly that.
