Outside the cafe at White Box, an enchanted garden opens up behind the East Cotton Mill complex, with a waterfall, picturesque wedding spots, and a nature-wonderland setup that explains half of why people make the drive to McKinney. Inside, a kids' play area has books and a pretend kitchen, which explains the other half.

The room itself is beautiful and easy-going, with mid-century to transitional decor and a single black circle painted on one wall that anchors the otherwise quiet design. The garden is the draw, and the cafe behaves like it knows that.

The cold brew is one of the standouts, with chocolate and cherry notes carrying it. Seasonal monthly specials get creative names, including a Tiramisu latte and peaches and matcha when they rotate through. A salted caramel and coconut latte is the sweet-and-tropical option. Ceremonial-grade matcha is the move for matcha drinkers who want the real thing. The pastry case carries a strawberry cheesecake croissant and a Guinness ganache croissant, both worth the order.

Parents with toddlers are a major segment of the clientele, since the play area gives them somewhere to put the kids while they finish a drink. The photo-shoot and influencer crowd is heavy on weekends, hunting backdrops in the garden. Antique-chair sitters and wedding-photo hunters round it out.

A few caveats. Parking is limited and the move is to park across the train tracks and walk in. No prices are posted on the menu, which has led to complaints about price hikes that customers only notice at the register. The play-area toys have been called unclean by more than one parent, so wipe them down or bring a sanitizer if your kid is going to use them. None of that erases what works here, which is one of the more genuinely beautiful cafe settings in the broader Dallas area and a kitchen creative enough to keep the menu interesting month to month.
