🔥 Roasts In-House

About

The smell of beans roasting hits before you reach the door. Woken Bear Coffee Company on Superior Street in Antigo runs the roaster on site, with a drive-thru that handles most of the volume and a cozy interior that has only two small tables, so anyone hoping to sit inside should plan around the hours when the place is quiet. Two tables is the entire indoor capacity. Plan accordingly.

The scale is the story. Cute, cozy, owner-operated, with house merch and dog treats at the counter and clean restrooms inside if you do get a seat. Outdoor seating helps in good weather, though Wisconsin weather makes that a seasonal note. The drive-thru is the everyday rhythm, and the lot is where the roasting smell hits hardest. Pulling up to a cafe where the air outside the car smells like fresh roast is its own small thing, and worth registering.

One sticker-shock note worth flagging: a $12 dirty chai showed up in a recent review, which is steep for Antigo and worth knowing before you order. Small-town pricing on creative drinks can climb fast when the syrup program is house-made, and Woken Bear's customizations push the ticket higher than the format suggests at first glance.

Otherwise the drink list rewards exploration. Raspberry cold brew with vanilla sweet cream is the named summer order. Honey lavender latte is the season-spanning move. Iced white chocolate mocha and a mocha frappe for the sweet end. Frozen hot chocolate if you have a kid in the back seat. Cheese danish, blueberry lemon scones, and a mountain berry muffin cover the food side, and the pastry case turns over fast enough that morning regulars see different items at different visits.

This works for Ice Age Trail hikers refueling, drive-thru regulars who want their morning sorted, and dog owners passing through Antigo with a back-seat passenger who wants a treat at the window. Not a fit for groups or anyone needing a table inside during busy stretches; with two tables, the math is simple, and the patio is the realistic plan B.
