About

One bartender works both sides of Yellow Spruce, which tells you most of what you need to know about how this Old Town Scottsdale spot operates. Coffee and gelato counter on the left, wine bar and restaurant on the right, the same staff shuttling between them. It's a small space. Cute but cramped, as one regular put it, with a few sidewalk tables out front and an interior built for photos more than for sprawling. When two or three customers walk in at once and there's only one barista on shift, things slow down. That's just the math of the place.

The small-batch gelato comes in small cups, the way it should. Seasonal latte specials rotate through, and the Raspberry Rose latte is the one regulars come back for. There's a Desert Pear plant-based energy drink for people who want caffeine without the espresso. At night the espresso martini does the heavy lifting, since the wine-bar side starts pulling in a different crowd than the morning coffee customers. The dual format is the whole concept: a morning coffee stop that becomes an evening cocktail stop without the lights ever coming up.

The Instagram-friendly interior is a feature, not an accident. The space was built to photograph, and the gelato cups, the seasonal latte presentations, and the cocktails all fit into that visual language. If you came for the photos and a drink, you're the target customer. If you came hoping for room to spread out, you misread the brief.

Who it suits is narrow and worth being honest about. If you're visiting Old Town and want a quick photogenic stop or a cocktail after dinner, Yellow Spruce works. If you want to spread out with a laptop, get through a workday, or sit somewhere quiet, you're in the wrong place. The combo format means the staff are stretched and the room isn't built for lingering. Come for the gelato and the seasonal drinks, sit outside if the sidewalk has a free chair, and don't expect to settle in.
